Vedauwoo & Blair Trails

Recreation Area

Directions: The most popular and easiest way to get to this trail system is to get off Interstate 80 at exit 329 and take Vedauwoo Road to the main entrance of Vedauwoo. There are many places to park and picnic here. Another popular access point is through the Blair Picnic Area. To get there, get off Interstate 80 at exit 323, head toward the rest area but keep going past it. At the top of the hill the pavement will end at a cattle guard. Follow the dirt road after the cattle guard for about 5 miles until you get to the entrance of the picnic area.

Vedauwoo may be better known for its rock climbing but there are over 20 miles of trails through this area for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
The best known trail is Turtle Rock Trail. It is very popular with mountain bikers and it is also the only trail in this system that is marked and maintained by the forest service.

The rest of the trail system works its way around meadows, trees, and a different unique rock feature can be found around every bend. We've added the major trails that are easy to follow but there are more stock trails, game trails, and old roads in the area begging to be explored.

- This trail system is open all year but it can be difficult to get to in the winter months because the Forest Service closes the facilities around Vedauwoo and the roads in the area are not plowed.

- There is a $5 day use fee if you park at Vedauwoo or the Blair Picnic Area. Annual Passes are available through the Medicine Bow National Forest Office in Laramie.

- These trails range in elevation from 7,840 to 8,420 feet.

- Approved Activities Include: Hiking, Mountain Biking, Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing and Horseback Riding.

- Dogs are welcome on the trails but must be on a leash, under control at all times, and owners must clean up after them.
