Difficulty: Easy
Directions: South Branch Trail can be reached by traveling west from Cheyenne on Wyoming Highway 210 (Happy Jack Road) for about 28 Miles or by getting off Interstate 80 at exit 323 and traveling east on Wyoming Highway 210 for about 8 miles. The turn off for Forest Service Road 701E will be to the Northeast at mile marker 30.
South Branch Trail is one of the less well known and less frequently used trails in the Pole Mountain area.
The main trail follows the South Branch of the North Fork of Crow Creek for a little over two miles. This trail and the Spur Trail provide easy scenic views of the many beaver dams along the creek. Stock Trail leaves the creek and heads Northwest for over a mile and a half before ending at FS Road 701GA.
There are no markers along these trails but they are well worn so they are only difficult to follow in the winter when covered with snow.
- The trails are open all year however FS Road 701E is closed to motorized vehicles from March 1st to May 25th. Hiking down this road will add another 0.8 Miles each way.
- There are no parking or day use fees.
- These trails range in elevation from 7,520 to 8,000 feet.
- Approved Activities Include: Hiking, Mountain Biking, Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing & Horseback Riding.
- Activities not Allowed Include: Horses can't use the Spur Trail because they won't be able to make it over the fence crossing.
- Dogs are welcome on the trails.
